Over
30 years of research shows that the single most important
factor in determining success in life is not an individuals
IQ the traditional measurement of intelligence
but rather their EQ, or level of emotional intelligence.
At one time, if a person did not score well on an IQ test,
they were considered less intelligent than others, and, therefore,
less likely to succeed. However, that assumption doesnt
reflect real world experience. In fact, recent research has
shown that the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is only one of the
multiple intelligences of human beings, and is less important
to success than other factors.
This research translates to the workplace, as well. In management,
EQ accounts for 90% or more of what makes one person successful,
while another, with equal credentials, is less successful.
In studies of thousands of business executives, entrepreneurs,
sales professionals and employees over the past 30 years,
it has been proven that superior performance is far more dependent
on an individuals level of EQ rather than their IQ.
People with high EQ levels are able to recognize and manage
their emotions and understand and connect with the emotions
of others. They are highly motivated and able to successfully
merge individual and group priorities towards a common goal.
They easily navigate the challenges of growth and change and
do all of this while producing exceptional results.
Given the overwhelming statistics on the importance of EQ,
more and more businesses are allocating valuable resources
to building an
EQ SMART culture and are including an evaluation
of emotional intelligence competencies in their performance
reviews and criteria for hiring and promotion.
The rules for work are changing rapidly. Our value to the
organization is being judged, not only by our experience and
expertise, but by how well we interact with others and respond
to a dynamic, changing business environment.
In todays competitive marketplace, the person with
the highest EQ stands out from the crowd and has a definite
advantage in accelerating his or her career.
